Law Clerk

POSITION OBJECTIVE: This position provides Legal Research support, including drafting memos regarding research; contract review and contract drafting; drafting/revising insurance policy documents; drafting/revising letters; reviewing existing contracts & policies for renewal dates/organizing for tracking.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supports Law Department attorneys by reviewing, suggesting necessary revisions, drafting, and proofreading legal documents, including insurance policies and contracts, as requested.
  2. Reviews existing contracts & insurance policies for renewal dates and organizes legal documents for tracking.
  3. Researches and drafts memos on legal issues as requested.
  4. Supports the legal staff by performing other duties or special projects as required or as requested.

PERFORMANCE METRICS:

  • Ensures documents are drafted, reviewed, revised, and/or proofread accurately and within the required timeframe.
  • Ensures memos and research are thorough, accurate, and well-written.
  • Completes the review, organization and tracking method within the required timeframe.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelorís degree and at least one year of study toward a J.D.

Experience:

  • Some experience as a law clerk or legal intern in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Interest in insurance (or general contracts/corporate law)

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and judgment skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to handle large, multi-part projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Preferred familiarity with liability insurance policies, insurance background or completed insurance-related courses.
